EWS-Gallery presents Magical World of Miguel Rio Branco, an exhibition of fine art photographs by the acclaimed Brazilian artist, photographer, painter, and experimental filmmaker.
Since 1980, Rio Branco has been a correspondent for Magnum Photos. His work explores the tension between beauty and decay, sensuality and violence — rendered in striking, saturated color. In Nakta (1996), he examined the bestiary within man and animal, signaling a shift away from traditional documentary photography. The following year, Silent Book transformed the effects of light, age, and time into haunting visual poetry.
Rio Branco’s images, often lush and tactile, evoke the pulse of Latin American life. His photographs are held in major international collections, including The Museum of Modern Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
All works on view are original framed prints featured in the artist’s award-winning book Silent Book (Cosac & Naify Edições, 1997).
